This is the portal for linked open data technologies of the PRISMA project, PlatfoRms Interoperable cloud for SMArt-government, for the Municipality of Catania . PRISMA is an Italian PON R&C project, ref. PON04a2_A Smart Cities, under the National Operational Programme for Research and Competitiveness 2007-2013, which aims at boosting the Municipality of Catania towards the route of a modern Smart City.

The work falls within the spirit of the Smart Cities initiatives of the European Commission, which aims at bringing together cities, industries and citizens to improve urban life through more sustainable integrated solutions. PRISMA aims at experimenting smart eGovernment systems aimed at optimizing the performance of the city administration with the provision of intelligent ICT services for citizens and businesses in areas such as online social services, health, traffic management, transport, and urban decor.

To conceive, design and prototype ''smart'' applications for the Municipality of Catania, the provision of a ''smart'' semantic model on data gathered from the city is central. In this scenario, producing linked open data for the city, which are open, interoperable, annotated, and obtained following the Semantic Web standars, offers an ease understanding and reuse of core city data. Multiple heterogenous data sources have been combined into the unified semantic model that allows semantic interoperability.

This portal is aimed to provide public access to the produced data for the city. It is an initiative of the Semantic Technologies Laboratory within the Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies of the Italian National Research Council . The employed technologies are based on RDF and follows the paradygm of the linked open data initiative. The published data are made discoverable and become accessible via queries and public facilities.
